What you’ll learn
This course takes you from raw, messy spreadsheets to AI-assisted business intelligence, building one skill on top of the last.
You’ll start in Excel: cleaning data (duplicates, missing values, formatting, text functions), then applying logical functions (IF, IFS, SUMIFS/COUNTIFS/AVERAGEIFS) to segment and summarize it, then joining related tables with VLOOKUP and INDEX/MATCH. Each of these skills gets reinforced with a real-world project — cleaning a Netflix-style catalog, scoring marketing campaigns, consolidating retail sales records — so you’re applying the technique to a messy, realistic dataset, not just a tidy textbook example.
From there, you’ll move into dashboard design: PivotTables, PivotCharts, slicers, KPI selection, and how to lay out a report so the most important insight is the first thing anyone sees — plus how to present that dashboard as a team and improve it with structured feedback.
The course then shifts into Power BI: importing data from multiple sources, cleaning it in Power Query, modeling relationships with primary and foreign keys, and writing DAX measures (including CALCULATE) to power interactive, filterable dashboards.
Finally, you’ll learn to use generative AI as a working partner throughout that whole workflow — for cleaning suggestions, formulas, and draft summaries — while always verifying its output before trusting it.
Prerequisites
Before starting this tutorial, make sure you have:
- Power BI Desktop installed on your computer.
- A Power BI account if you plan to publish your report to the Power BI service. If you don’t have an account, sign up for a free trial.
- Basic familiarity with Excel and Power BI Desktop interface.
